About ‘The Band’
We are searching for the best of Bermuda’s musical talent to be a part of The Band, which will play at various America’s Cup events during the 35th America’s Cup from May 26 to June 27.
The band will be a six-piece band comprised of the best talent in Bermuda, ages 16 and up. Prior experience isn’t necessary. Auditions will be held on January 14 and 15, 2017 at Earl Cameron Theatre, City Hall, and the musical community of Bermuda is encouraged to audition. Registration is strongly advised, but walk-ins will be welcomed on the day.
The Band will be paid and given the opportunity to play at various events during the 35th America’s Cup including Dock-Out shows and parties. The Band will be responsible for learning each team’s song as well as soca, reggae, Top 40 and traditional Bermuda-themed songs.
For the audition, each musician will be asked to prepare three pieces. On audition day, participants will be given a number and will enter the audition space five at a time. Each participant will be invited to perform on stage in front of the panel of five judges. No one will be allowed in the audition space aside from the judges and the contestants.
For round two, the judges will select the top 20 contestants who will be asked back on the following day to perform their final piece. The final 20 will then be narrowed down to 12 and the public will then be asked to vote for their favourites to make up the band!
Voting will begin on January 18 for two weeks and the band will be announced on February 3.
The Band must commit to rehearsals twice a week for the months of February and March. This will increase to three times a week in April and May. Understudies are expected to make all rehearsals also.
This is an opportunity for Bermuda’s best musicians to come together and showcase the finest of our talent to the world!
